There have been plenty of players in the last 15 years who set the U18 champs alight and then failed to translate that ability to the AFL level, where there is significantly less time and space to use skills and make decisions.

For all his youtube highlights in the midfield at the U18 level, he hasn't done it once at AFL level, so far scraping a single season as a skilled small forward with only ok output.

Pick 5 is overs (although draft picks are overrated), but anything extra is just stupid. Just send him to the draft if they want any more and pick him with 5.

It's more a fear that we will play him up forward and to be fair with the way we try and put cooked players in the middle it is a warranted fear

no one doubts that Rankine is potentially going to be a star, but the fact is he hasn’t played at anywhere near the level of his draft position to this stage. In fact if the 2018 draft was redone now, then both Kings, Bailey Smith, Rozee, Butters and possibly Caldwell would all go before him. Pick 5 should never have been used, and certainly not mentioned until much later in trade week if it was our fallback position.
