No one cares what they think anywayOn another note I picked up a 6 pack of James Squire Broken Shackles lager for $13 to trial.
Nice drop although the beer snobs from the home brew thread will probably poo-poo it

Backyard is going to be laid with new grass by the time I get home today.
Any advice on how often/for how long I will need to water it for, initially at least? Empire Zoysia if it helps.
Having the pop up ones replaced today as well (thanks to the dog...)What kind of sprinklers have you got?
Why did I put all my money on Leeds?

I don't exactly know what type of lawn mine is. It looks and feels like Buffalo, so I go with that.
Weed 'n Feed every now and then, Wetta Soil here and there, a fortnight-to-monthly mow in Spring/summer, leave it alone in winter, done. Can't argue with results...

Tbh it was a lot to do with the uneven ground and invasive weeds that were making things impossible, not to mention struggling for time with work. Just decided to bite the bullet.I've never known anyone to not roll out their own lawn. I've helped mates do it on numerous occasions. Pretty easy to do. We laid 300m2 so fast one day we called ourselves Beers by 10 lawn services
Good story, Dan.
300m2 of lawn. I can only imagine this man lives a life of regret.I've never known anyone to not roll out their own lawn. I've helped mates do it on numerous occasions. Pretty easy to do. We laid 300m2 so fast one day we called ourselves Beers by 10 lawn services

If you do end up with the low output ones (MP Rotators) you need to run them about 3 times longer than a normal sprinkler to get the same amount of water on your lawn (they have a precipitation rate of about 10-12mm an hour as opposed to a standard pop-up nozzle which is usually about 30-35mm an hour). Have seen a lot of people kill their lawn by only running them for 10 minutes at a time.Assuming you are on the normal gutless Perth sand and the nozzles aren't of the schmancy low output ones (need longer watering times) and the retic system is decently designed you probably want to give it ~10 minutes twice a day for the first week at least. You don't want the lawn to show any signs of moisture stress early in the piece.
I'd also give it a drink of seasol/kelp in a day or two and at the end of the first week. Promotes root growth and reduces stress.
Yeah the advice from the neighbour was identical to yours, will definitely be putting up the spray time.If you do end up with the low output ones (MP Rotators) you need to run them about 3 times longer than a normal sprinkler to get the same amount of water on your lawn (they have a precipitation rate of about 10-12mm an hour as opposed to a standard pop-up nozzle which is usually about 30-35mm an hour). Post a photo of the heads if you aren't sure.
Take a pic and share it. If they are normal nozzles you will drown it with the station time you need for rotators.Yeah the advice from the neighbour was identical to yours, will definitely be putting up the spray time.
Nah they're definitely the rotators. Identical to the pics I looked up.Take a pic and share it. If they are normal nozzles you will drown it with the station time you need for rotators.
Rotators are great BTW. I wouldn't use regular old school style ones myself any more.
Wind bothers them less.Nah they're definitely the rotators. Identical to the pics I looked up.
Why do you prefer them?
I used to swear by them but I had to take them out of my place last summer, my scheme water has a lot of calcium in it so they started getting jammed up and not spinning.Wind bothers them less.
Soil can only take in the water so quickly so slower watering is better for properly wetting the soil through instead of creating run off.
Can run more heads per station given your water pressure.
Need less heads to service a given area - longer reach from each head. The only downside is upfront cost but designed from scratch you can cut that down quite a bit through needing less hardware for the area and possibly a cheaper irrigation controller.

Not a fan of pop-ups?I never thought I'd say this, but I wish we were all discussing Leeds
