Even if Root didnt see him drop it (he was the one begging for the review) Stokes himself knew he dropped it. You can see it on the replay that he knew straight away.

Unless he was reviewing for an LBW, it was just a baffling decision to review.

Yes, for a few seconds when he placed his knuckle on the ground and the ball didn't touch the ground. He had control, the 3rd umpire thought he immediately place the ball on the ground.

Nah no chance, Starc’s was more controlled than Stokes’. Stokes was still in the catching motion and was about to throw it in the air and flat out dropped it. Starc had it in control for 5 minutes before steadying himself to get back off the ground
