Ayres, who turned his back on the club when learning the news, has kept his silence since leaving West Lakes.

But he did not, as first believed, escape Adelaide and his ex-players by jumping on the first available flight to Melbourne on Monday.

It can now be revealed:

AYRES was in his St Peters house on Monday and Tuesday, watching out over his street as a large media contingent waited for him or wife Jackie to appear.

HE did not, as was reported, address his players in a meeting after learning of his fate. But he did speak to them individually over the phone.

AYRES did not leave town (by car) for Victoria until Thursday, when he ran into vice-captain Ben Hart at Tailem Bend.

PLAYERS, club officials and close mates of Ayres' say he maintains his stoic facade and is waiting for the right moment to break his silence.

ASSISTANT coach Peter Curran, a former team mate of Ayres' at Hawthorn, did not consider quitting following Ayres' sacking.

AYRES is expected to first speak on Channel 9, with which he has a contract.

Of course, they wouldn't come out and say 'Rucci lied and rumour-mongered and all his rumours were incorrect crap made up at his desk as usual' but this is as close as you're going to get!

Funnily, they replaced the name Rucci with 'as first believed' and 'as was reported'.

Unfortunately, very few believe what Rucci writes. We all know he was trying to cover-up his major ****-up in stating that Ayres was going to be re-appointed.

If you closely look at Rucci's articles you will see he will use the words - alledgedly, supposedly, possibly, may - to eliminate legal/defamation proceedings. He never comes out and says it but throws in those words in the article because generally people don't read things word for word but he is able to create the impression and we all know perception is reality. Very clever journalism.

I don't see many qualifiers there.

He writes of the player meeting and Curran's imminent depature as if they were certifiable truths. Whilst he at least qualifies the bit about going back to Melbourne with "it is understood".

I'm starting to see why everyone has such a low opinion of this journalist.

edit: scratch part of that, on second read he sort of qualifies the Curran one with "expected to continue"

Very clever journalism.

Or maybe very good editorial action.

But either way, covering your ass for defamation suits doesn't change the fact that he clearly has no sources and no credibility and is no better than a gossip rag writer.

I use other qualifies as well - "understood", "expected" - in other words not definitive.

"He is understood to have returned to Melbourne and is unlikely to break his silence before Craig's media conference tomorrow morning"

Now we all know the truth, didn't leave until Thursday. Should be called the great fabricator.

And can someone please explain how he would know this - was he in the room at the time??? "He left his meeting with Adelaide chairman Bill Sanders without shaking hands and rejected the option to finish the season".

Ooooh careful everyone, The Advertiser might threaten you with defamation because you said their 'Chief Football Writer' has no credibility

By the way, the part 'it can now be revealed' shows that it was Rucci who wrote that retraction, 'reveal' of course being his favourite word to use. Except of course when he's writing about the Power in which case he prefers the word 'prove' e.g. 'proves they can handle finals pressure'.
