Will we see a fire sale at Hawthorn?

No first rounder, late second rounder. Lots of players with value, even if they are legends. Cyril, Smith, Gunston, Breust all would have value off the top of my head.

Right now you've got a few who have value, but we need to know for these guys in this reality or just form. It is only 4 weeks though, so it's hard to know.

Personally, of the blokes who have value, this is the reality for Bruest, Shiels, Smith, Langford McEvoy and Puopolo. They just aren't that good. Frawley, Stratton, Rioli and Gunston are just struggling a bit, they aren't the blokes I'd be getting rid of. Still like Birch, good leader IMO.

The others either hold no value, or are too young.

The immense scale of the task facing Hawthorn brutally exposed by Geelong in Easter Monday loss

While Clarkson was indeed ruthless in trading out experienced players in order to acquire more early picks when he first arrived at the club — shipping out Nathan Thompson, Jonathan Hay and Peter Everitt — he might not have the currency to do similar this time around.

Smith, Jack Gunston, Luke Breust and Cyril Rioli are among the few that would perhaps demand a first-round draft pick, however all four have penned new contracts with the club at some stage over the last 12 months.

It will make the task of trading back into the first round of this year’s draft all but impossible for a side that desperately needs an injection of young talent.

First round pick for a player with likely 3 years left? No. Not even close.

Richmond received that exact same pick for Brett Deledio, who is both older and significantly less decorated than Cyril. If Richmond make finals this year they'll be doing whatever they can to keep that form going. If GWS 1st is worth worth Brett Deledio, it's easily worth Cyril Rioli.

Nobody would pay s**t for him. He's too old. Hawks need a first round pick.

It shits me when a speculative teens pick (14 to 18) gets overrated against a known quantity of Cyril's class.

Cyril is 27 - turning 28 this June/July. He could easily play 4 to 5 years, more importantly years where Richmond are looking like closing in on something big. He'll be the perfect icing in the cake kind of player and better return in value compared to another first round draftee.

FYI - Shaun Burgoyne was traded from Port to Hawks when he was 28yo. You wind back the clock and Hawks would do that deal with closed eyes - every. single. time. Cyril will be the same for Richmond if the rest of the list takes that next step.

Cyril would be a great get for a team going for top four or a preliminary at the least.

GWS trading (and drafting) has had a lot of misses the last few years i wouldn't be holding them as an example of what players should be worth.

On rioli he has bad hamstrings and is not a player who you can rely upon for week in week out consistency. A list manager that gave a 1st rounder for him would be unwise.
