Autopsy 28 point loss vs. GWS franchise

Every player that we bring into the club from now on either needs to be an exceptional kick or needs to be able to run fast and have some proper size about him. No more of these slow and/or skinny blokes that get rinsed by proper athletes time after time, and then can't do anything with the ball when they do get it.
Not to be too greedy, but I would also like them to be able to stick a tackle.

I chose this club in ‘94, watched them saved from the brink in ‘07.. Only to be sitting here in 2023 comparing us to literally the only club less successful than us in the past 28 years as some sort of macabre positive.

Life’s good
Theres always and always will be a team that sucks a big bag of donkey dicks. Unfortunately, its our turn. Its the way the competition is organised. Just harden up mate. We are gettibg there.

While we have Ziebs down back as our go to bringing the ball out and Spicer anywhere near getting a game, we’re surely taking the pi$$. Ziebs has been a warrior through some pretty poor years but the time has come to transition him out.

It really sucks because at the start of the year he was honestly one of our best and we thought, “if this is what he brings, okay then, deserves a spot”.
We just can’t get it together. Can’t fire on all cylinders. He’s like the embodiment of that- acceptable one week, putrid the next. For no reason.
And there are always excuses.
Other teams just get out and win some games, no excuses, no reasons not to. We just sit here, picking over wreck after wreck after wreck.
Ziebell’s whole career has come and gone within two decades of us never legitimately challenging.

Last ~5 minutes of the 1st quarter: 0.1 to 3.1
Last ~5 minutes of the 3rd quarter: 0.0 to 3.1

There's your game. We switched off at the back end of the 1st and 3rd quarters and that was enough to decide the game.

Not sure what this comes down to, but probably a mix of things: leadership, structure, inexperience, fatigue?

We need to concede less runs of goals within such a short amount of time. What killed us in recent weeks was slow starts where we'd conceded a 3-4 goal head start, but this week we started strongly and were instead punished in the last 5 minutes of the 1st and 3rd.
We lack leadership. Our veterans are our worst decision makers.

The three goals that you highlighted in quarter 1 were:
  • half effort by Hall, letting Bedford step around him for an easy goal
  • Hall trying to pinpoint Sheezel out of defense, missing him, leading to a Sheezel fumble under pressure and a goal
  • Hall letting his man casually step around him for an uncontested mark on the goal line

The 3 in the 3rd quarter were:
  • McKay 50 after Ricardi threw it
  • McDonald letting Greene body him and volley the goal on the line
  • Ziebell and McKay watching Greene stroll through the stoppage for an easy goal, rather than close the space

Some bad luck with the first two but the last goal was really dumb defense by two experienced players.

Seriously our backline is ******* shithouse and an embarrassment to the league.

Get Hall Ziebell McDonald and Corr out of there, they are a sack of potatoes.

The Spicer experiment is over, deadset spud. Delist

Curtis needs an extended run in the VFL.

Warlord and Thomas our only shining lights. Even Sheezel is starting to look a bit sloppy.

Need LDU Jy and Greenwood back

Doggies will be licking their lips next week.

Lots of people passing judgment today. Did you all travel to the game? Good effort.

Cause sure as hell you wouldn’t dare make judgement on players games after watching on TV. That’s just not allowed.

I went to our home ground, the team wasn’t playing there though for some strange reason , apparently were in Hobart?

Could always be worse you could follow Carlton.

Looked like the difference between boys and well drilled men and we fell back into old patterns late in the game and its really hurt us.

Does our selection committee have ******* rocks in its head?

Why the * would you put a dour, one dimensional, non accumulation key defender as your sub?

Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

And this is why I’m losing hope.

“We’re in capable hands, it’ll turn, don’t worry, it’ll just happen”.

Not trusting the process atm tbh

No Simpkin.
No LDU.
No Greenwood.
Useless sub.

Expected this result tbh.

Would have been interesting to see what happened if we had an actually useful sub who could come on in the third and try and counteract the GWS surge.
Got to stop using ‘who was out’ excuses
Any team has 3-4 good players out week to week
Can’t win AFL games with ziebell hall McDonald Corr in back 6
Throw in min output from usual players and we always playing 8 short

True unfortunately, the upside is he probably has a terrific property portfolio 👍

Who was out, how young we are (even when the other team is younger and still wins), “the fact that we were playing [insert any other team] you know and they’re really good”, the weather, the interest rates, the price of petrol, someone’s uncle’s friend’s brother’s sick cat…we’ll literally use any excuse to make ourselves feel better about a loss.

We’re a club with a loser mentality.

They can’t blame inexperienced kids going missing for patches either- they’re our best players at the moment! (While it lasts, until they get jack of setting the standards for older ones who should know better).

And they’re led by a brains trust who relisted Turner and took over a month to admit he’s not up to it, who also think Corr is an acceptable sub. I could go on but you know the rest.

If we win more than those two apparent miracles this year, I’ll be very surprised.
