Squad is in

World Test Championship Final and Men's Ashes squad: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith (vc), Mitchell Starc, David Warner

Renshaw made the squad too? Not ruling him out. He also has a terrific CC record, hit a double ton in the last Shield and batted extremely well in the A tour of NZ. Is capable of a second gear if the deck is batting friendly too.
Is out of him and Harris for mine.

Looked out of his depth first two innings but settled in after that, tho never posted any decent scores from memory.
Fair point on Renshaw, genuinely forgot about him.

Wylie played in the A games too he's probably the longest term prospect out of all of them but it's good they are giving him games

Gut feeling Harris will get the nod as he seems to be a bit of a CA pet, as is Sean Abbott.

I’m not sure about a pet, but he is the specialist opener in the squad, and his Shield and CC form has been good. Wouldn’t be opposed to Renshaw either.

No debate from me on that. I see this as a horses for course selection by CA as he is in his domain, English conditions. Had it been at home doubt he'd have been chosen as he averages a pretty bad @26 from his 14 Tests played mostly at home. Has an annoying habit of dismissing himself after getting a start as we all know..

So much energy spent from posters talking about that opening spot, i swear i must be the only one that just couldn't care less who they go with. I have no confidence in Warner, Harris, Bancroft. It is what it is.

In saying that Warner has to be on his last chance, should almost be prove you can do it in these conditions against India or one of the others gets first crack in the Ashes. They won't do it but they should.

I mean it’s the spot most up for grabs, the rest of batting line up is settled, and the bowlers are settled/will be rotated.

Soo, there’s not a great deal more to discuss until we see the pitch and Indias final line up.

I get it, it's just been the same posts about the same 3 players for like 24 months now. It wasn't intended a a dig, just not sure how some have the energy for it. My 2 cents would be i think we have seen enough of Warner in these conditions to suggest it is just not going to work out and looking elsewhere couldn't end any worse.

Fair enough, it’ll stop once the match starts I hope. On Warner, I wouldn’t have chosen him, but I hope he goes well.

Oh it won't if he fails it will continue for 5 days even when we are in the field.

If he actually succeeds people will complain even more

Buckle in 😂

So Moeen coming back. Geez their other spinners must be really s**t.

I'm very surprised England went this route to be honest.

Staggered as a matter of fact.

McCullum strikes me as a guy who will always go for the left-field option no matter what.

Whether it is running down the wicket 3 times in 3 balls in the 2015 WC final or opening the batting with a bowler, sometimes people just try too hard.

Wow talk about dining out on Indian fare after I went to bed at tea, stumps a commanding 3-327 with Smithy steady as a rock and Travis bazballing the bowlers all over the park.

Moeen has now played 64 Tests and averaged 28.29 with the bat and 36.66 with the ball. This is the list of players who have played as many (or more) Tests as Moeen who were not wicketkeepers and did not have either a better batting average or better bowling average than Moeen:

1. John Emburey (64 matches, Bat Avg 22.53, Bowl Avg 38.40)

If Ali plays another Test no one would have ever played more Tests than him as a non wicket keeper without either having a better batting average or better bowling average than him.

Perfect start to day two for the master batsman.. his 31st century🎉

Moeen dominates in England. He boosts our "murderers row" batting lineup.
Leach is marginally better as a spinner. I have nothing against the callup.

Woke to the elation that Australia has taken a stranglehold on the world champ title. Was thanks to Carey we reached 450, then our attack, looked underdone in the first 10 overs, specially the skipper, but he managed to get one ball on line for the breakthru of fellow skipper Sharma, and the rot had started.

He averages something like 64 with the ball against Australia and hasn't played for two years, Australia should feast on him.

Smith has overtaken Ricky Ponting to be the second quickest to 31 Test centuries. It has taken him 170 innings to reach the milestone, behind only Sachin Tendulkar (165 innings) and faster than Ponting (174), Younis Khan (184) and Sunil Gavaskar (192).

..and those media vultures keep pestering him over his retirement plans. For mine our batting maestro has at least two good years left before his enormous powers start dying.

Next home Ashes imo would probably be a decent time.
