Autopsy Geelong QF loses to Richmond by 51 points

You're missing my point. I'm saying if cats have to play mcg to attract bigger numbers so should Giants. Of course both sides should be at their respective home grounds.

Even though GWS home ground only has a capacity of around 24,000, I doubt GWS -v- WCE would attract a large enought crowd for ANZ,

OK, I can agree with that, after all their win over GWS was a win over a team with little Finals experience. Is it vindictive + vile of me to hope that Richmond chokes too? :p

Actually, not sure if I really mean that lol I'd prefer Tigers + Crows go through instead of WCE + GWS
With Richmond you don't have to hope.

Menegola was marginalised with the return of Selwood.

At least give him a chance.

The reason we got him was his WAFL form as an inside mid with elite endurance - when given that role he has repaid the faith
Whilst he's good overhead particularly up forward he needs to rest there , not play as a permanent forward - the game has moved on to place more emphasis on specialists like pressure forwards and attacking HBFlankers

In a crowd of 95000 that seemed mainly Yellow ..there is bound to be the odd reprobate ... yet the game started with officially sanctioned welcome to the game of the drums..drums that would get played at Rich home game ... then followed by a noise that I can only say was the sound that set the tone of the masses.. .. a drone of booing for the home side coming onto the ground that was not just the odd supporter it was the sound a herd mentality.

And so it went thru the game... Richmond supporters jumping up out of seats because they were "excited" ..not caring if it blocked others view. ..not worried about spilling beer all over the opp. supporters in front , not worried about kids in tears near me that was for sure. I have been going to football a long time and seen few crowds where their unbridled selfishness was so unchecked, a level of self entitlement that seemed gravy for the meat of potential violence.

So after all that ..do you really believe that Tig supports just doffed their hat and said bad luck etc to exiting opposition supporters. You personally are not responsible for others ..if you behaved well then congrats to you... but I fear if you do believe in Karma , the this year may yet have a bad turn for RFC.
I'm saying it again! Selwood told to call the coin toss, when it was our home game!

Well said.

Inside mid plays elite as an inside mid.

Didn't have an impact as a high HF...

Hmmmm...

Maybe I shouldn't have brought stats into it - you're right in that he probably is never going to amass big numbers - I just don't see a lot there to be honest - maybe it will come, but hopefully he can learn his craft in the two's and then earn a recall. Injuries have dictated some selection decisions this year for sure, so I hope we can sort that out, because there are players right now that are not senior quality.

As far as the pressure acts go, how does he rate in this area? I don't see it as a big factor tbh - Varcoe used to do a lot of little 1 percenters that went unnoticed by most. I don't see that with Parsons.
You didn't see it on Friday, but you have probably missed the ones he does- great tap ons, smothers, his handpassing is superquick and creative, and he has some goal sense

There have been a few posters this year who in their own way questioned the factual interpretation of our results the last few years. For me the Swans game last year was the proverbial straw.. so I have been adamant the wins and losses thru the year had limited value ..and that I would not really engage the "hope" lever again till we start winning ..in essence they must prove to me that they are worthy of my hope.

Its a different time and era... but I question now if one of the key tenants of the Thompson era is still a KPI for us. Do we play a style that stands up in finals? For years there was the usual platitudes about the Geelong way.. what is our way NOW ... Lets shutdown and close down and restrict ..and when another side breaks us in a big game we are cooked.. We have become a poor version of a StKilda Freo clone ... and some keep getting fooled into it being a winning way because of the tight confines of KP where it easier to shutdown and close down and restrict. Winning 80-40 still means we haven't scored an average of 4-5 goals a quarter which is a good indicator imo of a teams capability to win matches rather than force the other side to lose.
Some of this is because the game has become a bogged down imitation of the game I loved .. very few times do I really enjoy the wins when we do actually win .. the highlights are so few and far between..it has now become a test of running and effort and zones.

Barr humbug... not in positive state of mind atm...
Despiste the flogging Swans gave us last year, we still did the same thing when we played this year.

No! Are losses prove we play badly in Finals, which was the fantastic thing about Bomber - someone else said he trained the players for Finals throughout the Season.

Our way now, part of the issue is we can beat a lot of the top teams, except Sydney it seems. Yet, lose to lower ladder teams, which I just find inexcusable!

I think there is some arrogance or complacency, because the Club (some supporters too) think we're better than we are + still doing it the 'Geelong way' from the Dynasty era. Surely it's obvious that lack of Finals wins means we're not + why isn't that being addressed + changed.

We don't play 'Geelong football' anymore. Even when we were a s**t club we still played attacking, attractive football. We've become such a dour side as of late, any glimmer of attacking flair seems to be snuffed out quick-smart.

We just scored 5 goals in a final and we elected to drop our 2nd leading goal-kicker. It boggles the mind. If there's not a serious response next week in the Semi then the club needs to re-evaluate where we're actually at.

Spot on - all the work done by Bomber to develop the "Geelong Way" has gone by-the-wayside. It took several years to create that. It will take years to create it again. Scott has time and time again been shown up tactically on match day (usually in finals). The decision to extend his contract mid-year was farcical.
I spend a lot of money on social club membership for myself and my two kids every year and have donated many more thousands over the years to our fundraising efforts... I'm really done with them if they bow out without a whimper again due ineptitude in the coaches' box...
Will write to Brian Cook to ask these questions as well, particularly if things go as everyone expects next week.

I watched it from the stands and I do remember over the loud speaker Selwood to call.

Question, did we really use the away rooms or was I told an untruth
YES!!! Did you see Selwood's face?

Don't know about the rooms, but as Turbocat said, Richmond had the drums etc. May as well have been their home game, AFL + Tigers thought it was  At least Ottens rang our Bell

I'm with you in the SC $, but I think CS has been fine.
We need patience as this plan to add on and contend was worthwhile, but will not bear fruit.
We'll have to enjoy wins when they come.

One good thing about Richmond winning is this majority of the crowd was still in the ground after the siren making the walk to Richmond station easier

Ha ha - I walked home with the kids as that way we could avoid any nufties. They still have to face the "real" Caddy (aka Chocolate Soldier) as well in the Prelim...

No I probably didn't miss it, but thanks for guessing about it. Just a wrong guess. Quick hands I agree with, his hit on Hodge was great, that's about it I'm afraid as far as I see it. You see it different, no problem with that. Agree to disagree.

Some supporters?
Yes, some supporters think we're better than we are. I don't think that. I'm not a Scott hater, yet still believe we need to improve in lots of areas.

So you're asking if only some supporters think we're better than we are? Perhaps too many, but supporters who had no doubt we'd beat Richmond on Friday night, who thought it'd be a cake walk, + those who believe we'll beat Sydney next Friday night, obviously think we're better than we are, yes?
