To be fair, this board used to run with this when we lost to Richmond this time of year during the threepeat years.
It was more that we didn’t respect them I always felt.

Also, Pies will be preparing for finals. They are guaranteed top 2 and probably in a big training block. Hawks used to drop a game like this all the time when they were contending - usually against Richmond.

Still a great win but it has been a very inconsistent season. Beating the pies does not change that.
Still every chance they could finish 3rd.
The pies would've wanted to bank this win to then go through a 3 week training block before finals.
You don't do heavy loads in the lead in unless your best result is assured.

The pies may have started slow. Taking us lightly. After quarter time they turned up though. You don't have players throwing themselves at everything, flying the flag etc if it doesn't mean anything

Why is Morrison at 24 not a potential long term option if he can continue with this output?

What is his current output?

Aside from the second half against the Pies (which was great) he was been poor this season, and was rightly dropped for several weeks.

IMO he's a smart, tidy, but limited player and we will simply have others overtake him. CJ will be coming back into the side, Mackenzie and Butler have big futures and we will be drafting at the top end again, plus targeting players in FA.

Obviously some players will leave too (Wingard?) and others have only a year or two left (Breust, Wingard?) which may open up other spots in the side. Though at the end of the day I believe we will have better options playing off a wing moving forwards.

The output from this game is what I was referring to, you said current not me, or even from last season where he was considered one of the better specialist wings in the game? He's obviously had issues this season where his skills have let him down but availability and reliability are his usual strong points.

Not everyone needs to be a star, sometimes a solid player in the right position can make a massive difference.

Me and a friend used to always have a sense of relief when Richmond finished ninth. Was always scared they'd get into finals and cause us some trouble.

Based on this game he definitely deserves to keep his spot.

It would be hard to pick someone to come out of the side, though Mackenzie, Kosi and probably Mitchell are the first names on the list. I'd say most likely it will be Amon for Mackenzie, and someone drops to the sub spot.

Also I'm not saying everyone has to be a star, literally no one is, we probably have one certified star in the side currently anyway. Fringe players can be replaced by better ones, or ones with more upside though, which is my point.

Watching the game again

I’ve always thought that Del Santos was no fan of the hawks, but was amused at how deep it actually runs listening to him during this game

Anyone notice Newk get slammed into the ground with a dangerous tackle, and Dal Santo say "lucky he rolled him with a good tackle on the shoulder", and they didn't replay it again? I watched again a few times and his head clearly hits the ground. I prefer players didn't get suspended for this, but when we've had Day (2), Sicily (3), Brockman (1), and Reeves (1), miss games and also had the commentators suspend most of the them on the spot, it is a bit frustrating when they decide to throw someone under the bus or not.

I remember seeing it at the game and thought immediately it looked like a suspension but completely forgot about it till now. Was pretty bad from memory? Can’t remember who did it

I had a bit of a melt in the game day thread for the same reason. He didn’t get turned, he got dumped on his head.

This kid looks like he's going to build a following.

Great fun. Check out 6:28 when his mate is losing it over the bullshit free kick from the scuffle. That's passion right there!
