I listened to Jon Ralph a couple of times & unless I misheard him, he seemed to be suggesting that we're still interested in Clayton Oliver & may make another play for him at season's end

It was during the halftime break on Fox

Nah i'm good, they'll ask for the World for him and he's a well known headcase.

Mate the only true small forward we have is Stengle.

Close is definitely a small forward, being a defensive pressure specialist doesn't mean he isn't a small forward.
Crumbing and forward pressure are his two major attributes which is what a small forward is there for. Stengle similar but probably moreso crumbing and goal kicking. Mannagh would be another small forward but he could also fall into HHF role due to his midfield work at VFL level.

Miers is more of a High Half Forward than a traditional small forward, Dempsey similar as he can play wing as well.
Henry and Rohan are Medium Forwards.

Jez, Hawk, Neale etc Key Forwards.

Another example of a win-win? Maybe if you count gold coast salary cap constraints and subsequent ability to sign Humphries and others then probably the Bowes trade is a win-win.

More looking towards the 2024 trade period ..to find a win win ... but one can never control what others do with their half of a trade. Id be happy to find a Bruhn type value somewhere.. and its up to the other trade partner to find their own version of Jones

My impression was he was referencing our past interest .. and perhaps that signalled to all that others would be interested if Melb decided to trade him.

The way its being reported now, he has knuckled down and all is sweet again inside the walls of D land.. so no trade on the horizon.

but if there was a signal that he was available ..is there any doubt we would enquire?

Bailey Smith for our first + the wake up call they need to sack bevo

Surely no one can pick him up after the North CEO email.

Pretty crazy from a privacy perspective she cc:d in all the club CEOs.

He is not even that great of a player to worry about the baggage.

Would not go anywhere near him. Risk far greater than any likely reward. Sends an appalling message to both our female supporters and our women’s team too.

Its an interesting observation about that type of injury. Love to hear some extra expert feedback.

Are all players the same. I doubt it. How many players that have done ACL in unusual circumstances and went on to never do one again... while other players seem to have a predisposition to the injury.

Did some skimp on the maintenance. Guys like Menzel seemed to put plenty into it but maybe was just genetically unlucky.

On the damage ...does each knee absorb the same amount of damage when injured..or is it relevant to the way the injury is done?

Is there a way to predict reoccurrence risk? ..what are the odds of a reoccurrence. How did Smith do his knee.. what type would he fall into? Did the surface play a role in it. There seems a relationship to knees at certain times of year .. and even some surfaces and grounds. How has doing a knee affected the draftability of kids..

If Will Ashcroft suddenly said he wants away from Brisbane as he blamed the Gabba surface would we be keen on him. My bet we and just about every other club would jump at the risk.
Ashcroft is a totally different (much better) prospect than smith.

The only red flag on Ashcroft is the knee injury, so is worth the risk. Smith has multiple red flags on his profile, thus not worth the risk.

Apples and oranges.

The debate was about the knee and recovery ..and whether a player returns to his best. Yes different player but if you exclude Smith based on his knee then its relevant

Interesting leak. It's clear they don't want any club to pick him up in case he turns it around and they look stupid. The leak was a form of reputation management.

Regardless I wouldn't want to pick him up.

Did anyone hear the rumour that Geelong are making a play for a certain Hawthorn midfielder- NOT worpel

Newcombe?

Or are we bringing Stephens home?

Conor Nash. My source is very hit and miss though
I don't know much about the guy (is from Ireland).

His stats look decent as a strong inside mid, but I didn't think he'd be a good fit because we seem to have inside guys coming through.

But then I see he is 198cm tall... So that adds another dynamic that could be handy.

The guy is a solid footballer (25 years old)... I don't know if the Hawks are down for losing decent footballers.

A 198cm midfielder who pinch hits in the ruck - wonder where we've seen that before...

Im not sure on the Bevo thing. Something is off a bit. Ton some degree..I think Bevo benefited by the the work the McCartney did ... and they have a funny group of players. Bringing in some other coach might freshen them and give all a clean slate ..just like when he came in.

Might be time to add a bit of green to one of our jumpers... we seem to like the guys from the emerald isle.

Like the tackling pressure and the chase down speed.

Nash is a Unrestricted Free Agent ... so worth a look.

No club should be entertaining any idea of drafting this loser. I hope the Cats come to their senses about him. I hope the AFL bans him permanently.

Has there been any significant lack of sense ..have we approached him or made it known were interested in him specifically?

All I can think of is that snippet of an interview were we didn't categorically rule it out, but it also didn't suggest we were interested either - more so a question without warning and an answer that towed the club lines

I think Geelong should give him a wide berth.

Clubs make hard choices on potential players all the time..sometime kids miss on being drafted for so reason or other. I don't see the potential upside outweighing the potential downside for sometime..if ever with TT.

Yes he is talented. If he was an ordinary 20-40 player on a list this would never be an issue. Hed be gone like yesterdays fresh fish... but he is not a Max Holmes or Nick Dacios either. The cynic in me wonders what would happen if someone at that level would be totally black barred and suspended.

Once you bring in a player , you take on him and his issues. I think we can look elsewhere for a better mix of talent and personality.
