Issue being for the Suns is that we have possibly 3 academy players that are trending to be draftable in 2023 with 1 looking like a top 10 pick, so a future first really does nothing for us.

If North get a PP it will be the same as what Carlton got. And end of first round.
The AFL screwed up when they gave GC the PPs they did. That will never happen again.
You were never going to be able to get Ashcroft, so if he's taken at pick 2 or pick 7 it won't make one bit of difference about who will be there at that pick.

You'd hope, but I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if, behind the scenes, the AFL helped with getting Clarkson to North (fixing a basket case, like the did with Melbourne a few years back), and part of that was promises regarding PP.

If GC really wanted to make a stand, they would have re-drafted Martin with pick 1 when the PSD came around, but they let him get to Carlton for nothing.

Now, that would have certainly put a stop to the PSD threat, not just at GC but for every club.

Which is a good thing. Now that there is the SPP, they should remove it altogether IMO.

If you're not a FA and a trade can't be agreed on, then you go into a the national draft. It might actually help clubs at the bottom of the ladder get better young players as the top clubs are using their ND picks on established players.

I think that was suggested due to the Suns having a lot of picks already in this years draft and thus could be tempted to shift some draft capital into next season.. taking the crows 2023 1st for Rankine helps with that..

So.. you reacon the eagles, kanga’s, giants and Bombers are gonna pay Izak $700k or $800k or even $950k a year (depending on what media source you believe) to sit at home in Adelaide and not play a single game for them for 5 years?..

Big waste of Salary Cap space for absolutely no return.. and very good money for doing nothing if you can get it for young Izak!

Because thats what he could do if they ignored his wishes not to be picked after telling these non SA based clubs that he was only going home to SA and nowhere else.

I think theres only ever been Nick Steven’s that went into the PSD wanting to go to the pies but ended up being picked earlier by the Blues.. but that was a Victorian lad wanting to go home, and he ended up going home to Victoria, just not to the club he really wanted..

But like I said.. this wont end up in the PSD.. a trade will happen.
