Rankine is set to sign a five-year deal with Adelaide worth around $850,000 per season, which should make him the highest-paid player at the Crows next year.

First off no one knows it’s $850-$900k, it’s media speculation, just like there’s speculation he’s being paid $1.5M next year or it’s in the $600k. The media are like sheep and repeat what another outlet has reported.

Rucci was one of the first that went with it and he also said Port were getting Dunkley and Crows were after Sweet, neither true.

As for the trade, a lot of Crows posters anticipated pick 5 would form part of the trade. But even then with the reports from Jon Ralph, it’s only media speculation, there are no trades yet.

But go ahead and pat yourself on the back for something that hasn’t happened yet.

The Crows hold Picks 5 and 23 - and the Suns will almost certainly ask that Pick 5 be part of the deal. It wouldn’t surprise if they also asked for another first-rounder to be involved, considering Rankine was, firstly, a first-round draftee himself and, secondly, a brilliant goalsneak that showed more than glimpses in 2022.

Rankine was playing reserves last year, and only just scraped into 10th at the GCS B&F in 2022.

He's done about the same (or less) as Charlie Cameron, who was traded for pick 12 while under contract.

If Gold Coast get more than pick 5, there should be an immediate inquiry at the Crows for complete incompetence, considering they are the ONLY side who can give GCS any compensation, they're only bidding against themselves, and GCS has burnt the bridge with Rankine, leaking reports on how he's mentally weak, how his family life is toxic and how his manager is giving him bad advice.

No one in this thread knows anything for a fact. But consider it was being reported everywhere in the media that he was set to stay, and him saying how much he loves GC on social media, suggests that something changed his mind.

You can't really compare GC vs Adelaide environments. A couple of bad performances and Rankine will be under huge pressure from Adelaide fans, media. On GC nobody really cares about Rankine. He could enjoy his private life.

Of course they are different. But better get used to it is a stretch.

If he has a couple of bad games he would be putting pressure on himself well you would hope. He also has the choice not to follow social media or the media in general and he won’t be followed around by the media.

But given how much GC, it’s supporters and clearly our club rate him, then those bad games shouldn’t be common. If they are all they’ve all overvalued him.

Situation change and they did try to underpay him and was the last priority of all the signing. Lever did the same when we tried to short change him and end up doing a runner.

End up only being pick 10 and an early 3rd rounder (and this is not even taking into account we used your early 2nd rounder to trade with GWS for 2 early 2nd rounder), you need to look at the trade more closely.

We could pick up Rankine with pick 5 in the national draft. Why do you expect us to offer more? Do you think another club will pick him up before p5? I'd like to hear your logic, I suspect it will be very entertaining.
