Traded Rory Lobb - [Traded to the Bulldogs for #30 and F2]

I think Bulldogs supporters know what we need more than Freo nuffys with an obvious bias and cats supporters?

Fact is he’s played 4 or 5 games for the club and two of them were probably the wettest slogs of the year so far. He definitely hasn’t set the world alight and he was remarkably poor in the Brisbane game but he’s a role player who fills a role we were desperate for. Last year we had genuine spuds like Cordy & Schache, kids who don’t even play the position like Buku Khamis and mids playing this role.

His job is to support English in the ruck which he has been very good at, and to kick 20-30 goals and drag a defender off our two main key forwards. That is literally it and he’s on track to do just that and will only get better as he gels with Naughty/Marra, you can’t just throw a key forward into a new forward line and expect them to hit the ground running it very rarely happens, except with the stars like Lynch/Cameron.

We’re expecting to be competing for a flag this year and whilst we’ve been s**t all over the ground, that’s not his fault. We can’t do that with Darcy/Marra combo just yet, Darcy is 19 and a beanpole, ideally he pushes Lobb out towards the end of his contract, but until then he is perfect for what we need.

Yeah I’m not gonna lose sleep over a couple of picks in the 30s lol, and that list is laughable and shows some have no idea, since when are the Kings fwd/rucks?

Some fantastic contortions going on this thread. He's a forward ruck best in the game - shot down - no a forward ruck has to attend CB! Well he's a ruck forward then! Can kick 2 goals a game - no he doesn't, well he gets hit outs then!

It's not about this player he makes the other players better when he is not playing in their positions! Sounds like Freo fans when Lobb was at their club.

I don’t mind Lobb, and he’s been ok so far. He certainly isn’t a star but he’s competent enough at a few different things.
The benefits he brings is he can play forward and chop out in the ruck.
He helps out Naughton and JUH, especially JUH.
He can help out English, which we haven’t really had before.
He allows Darcy to develop without being rushed.
He allows Bruce to be a depth KPF, which might come in handy.
He suits our game style, therefore Bev will at least select him.

So whilst no star, he certainly ticks an awful lot of boxes, that makes him a pretty handy pick up.

Yeah I’m not going to have this conversation with someone who thinks Lynch/Kings are are forward rucks and comparable,

Lynch avgs a mammoth 0.5 hitouts a game, the Kings have had 35 hit outs in their career, Lobb has had 32 in 5 games this year.

You’re either *ed, have no idea or taking the piss so why would I waste my time 😂

It's not hard to have a discussion without resorting to insults. Bye.

He's just a B grader at best but is playing a role. He's a better option than Bruce.

But 2 second rounders isn't nothing and these ok at best key forwards who can chop out in the ruck aren't normally worth much. McStay and Weidemann cost less last year and both have more upside. Could they have just kept Cordy who is doing this job at StKilda? It sorry of feels like they've given up 2 decent picks for a guy they know will only give them 2-3 years of ok but not great footy.

It's overall a minor trade that won't make the team and won't kill the team. The only real worry is if he stands in the way of Darcy's development. It's hard to see how Darcy gets games in the same team as Lobb, English, Naughton and JUH.

The Club offered Cordy a 2 year contract extension he left and wanted a fresh start.

McStay was a FA so duh of course he cost less, Weideman is still soft and poor in the ruck/forward. Naming keeping Cordy is laughable.

Darcy is 3 years off so he helps him

Weird bump, was a bit of a non factor today?

This is coming from someone who continues to support Lobb (and Acres, Logue, Cerra etc)
Watch the last quarter again..

Edit: Agree it's a weird bump, sooner people move on the better.

will catch it on the weekly rewatch, not overly enthused about watching us s**t the bed again so soon...

If you're talking the free kick goal where Ryan clearly touched the ball, I'm still dumbfounded by that, never seen an unrealistic attempt paid when a player gets a hand to the ball...

s**t call that one. It’s funny because that exact same thing happened to our VFL side a few weeks ago (player got a clear hand on the ball in a speccy attempt and was pinged for unrealistic attempt). Was a sick kick afterwards though

I’m talking the last quarter in totality. Was influential in the middle, went forward and got the ball to ground enough. I thought he played a decent and sacrificial game.

He could certainly be doing more but we got him in to play second fiddle to Tim and provide support which he’s doing better than any other we’ve had, and is averaging a goal a game.

The game on the weekend is illustrative of why we recruited Lobb and what he’s brought to the team.

Lobb v Darcy (6 contests)
Hitouts: 4 / 1
To Advantage: 1 / 0
Clearances: 4 / 1
Score: 2.1 (13) / 0.0 (0)

Lobb v Tracy (16 contests)
Hitouts: 8 / 6
To Advantage: 1 / 2
Clearances: 5 / 5
Score: 1.0 (6) / 0.0 (0)

Lobb won the ruck and we won the clearance contest comprehensively when he went up against Sean Darcy. We now have a backup that can not only hold the fort against opposition first rucks when we rest English, but beat them soundly on occasion.

Throw in his goal from 50+ out to take the lead back in the last and that’s an impactful game from a position that has historically been a real problem for us.

To contrast, in the final against Freo last year we used a first year stick figure in Sam Darcy who was clearly (as you’d expect) beaten by Darcy & Lobb:

Darcy vs. Darcy (2 contests)
Hitouts: 0 / 2
To Advantage: 0 / 0
Clearances: 0 / 2
Score: 0.0 (0) / 0.0 (0)

Darcy vs. Lobb (8 contests)
Hitouts: 2 / 5
To Advantage: 0 / 1
Clearances: 2 / 4
Score: 0.0 (0) / 1.1 (7)

Last year, we mostly had Zaine Cordy and other stop gaps get thrashed by oppo first and second rucks, while not offering much (or anything) as forwards either. Now we have a second ruck that we can throw up against opposition first rucks like Darcy and not just break even in the contest, but win. While getting us a goal a week.

We never needed him to lead our goal kicking like Freo did last year. Just spell English with effect and play a role next to the primary targets in Naughton and Jamarra. His work up forward still has plenty of scope for improvement: he needs to offer more as an aerial target and clunk some more contested marks when he has the chance. But hopefully those three can continue to gel over the next couple of months.

His 30 years in his 10th year
“Plenty of scope for improvement”
He can’t do both never has never will.
If he’s good in the ruck his lazy up forward and putrid when the ball hits the deck.
When he plays well fwd his a liability in ruck.
Maybe we should of kept
Dardy mccrafty on our list he’s scope for improvement was massive!
