Rumour GFC 2024 Player Trading, Drafting FA, Rumours and Wish lists Pt 1

If the rumour of Tuohys back being cooked last season is fixed by this season, I would imagine, rightly or wrongly, that we likely see Tuohy up on the wing opposite Holmes but if I am honest I would much rather we put someone with pace there.

Hopefully Duncan is over his injury niggles. When in form off HBF he is something else.

Last year he had quite a few games where he was something else despite the injuries. A fit Duncan is still important.
Prefer some younger wheels there on the opposite wing of Holmes given Tuohy's age. However, Tuohy at his peak is relatively quick but it's probably since 2020 and that long ago when he was at his running peak.

Just FYI

If he wanted to come to Geelong, we will pay what it costs to get him.
Difference between paying for a Cadman and paying for Jezza. Jezza had actually proven himself over and over..

Cadman potential is high.. but low on actually results.. granted less body of work too

I wouldn’t have guess Jack Henry would be in our top 5.

Really hoping Willis can continue his clean bill of health and finally get a good pre-season + real season under his belt.

Reminds me a lot of Luke Pedlar at the Crows, who also missed his first two seasons through injury, before breaking out a bit in his third.

Similar sort of players, and both have that 'poor mans Dangerfield' style of play (which isn't an insult), in a Tom Atkins sized body.

Don't know what it is, but he just has that boom or bust feel about him. He'll either be a star, or never play a senior game, with not a lot inbetween.

Who is training at your club?

Adelaide: Sid Draper, Tyler Welsh
Brisbane: Levi Ashcroft, Sam Marshall
Carlton: Ben Camporeale, Lucas Camporeale
Essendon: Jobe Shanahan, Archer Day-Wicks
Fremantle: Bo Allan
Gold Coast: Leo Lombard
Geelong: Jonty Faull
Hawthorn: Xavier Lindsay, Josh Smillie
Melbourne: Harvey Langford
North Melbourne: Finn O'Sullivan
Richmond: Tom Gross, Jagga Smith
Sydney: Joel Cochran
West Coast: Malakai Champion
Western Bulldogs: Sam Lalor

Wonder where Faull sits within the 2024 Draft range...

Jimmy Willis beefed up a little looks like the tuff runt i saw years ago is about to be unleashed in 2024.
Please Lord give him a clear run at it. TIA

Was really excited about him draft time. Obviously tempered since then, but just a reminder that this kid really does have 'something':

Pacey, tough, skilled and a monster kick - would be amazing if we could see what he could do with an extended run at it.

Edit ok it is the national academy squad players for next year not players that missed this year, my bad.

I'd rather have Lalor training with Is.

Jonty Faull (GWV Rebels)
Tall Forward | 194cm | 01/02/2006

There’s some serious spring in the way Faull plays, and he enjoyed a stellar back-end of the Talent League season to make good on the glimpses he showed previously. Having had stints in the ruck at 194cm, he settled up forward and booted 13 of his overall 20 goals for the year in the last four games. He also bagged four for Vic Country’s Futures and is developing nicely

Willis. The thing that gives me hope about this kid is GFC gave him an extension after his very poor run with injury.

I have seen Kroeger play one game and really liked him, so Willis, being preferred , must surely have the "goods".

Is he in training now? Where do they train when BBL wicket is dropped in?

Uni?

Agreed that I reckon the club sees something too. Needs a big year this year though, as he's a mid second rounder - so we definitely saw something in him at draft time in 2021.

Re: training ground, assume it'd most likely be Deakin, yeah :)

Think we saw flashes of what he was capable of in the VFL. Had that stellar game against Southport (no less) where he kicked 3 goals. Just needs a clean run to build things up.

Willis has something about him for sure... he has that explosive power that you can't teach.

Just gonna need a long clear run at it to maximise on his potential.

I'm a fan... and people around here will know that I'm hard to impress, but that doesn't mean that it will all click for him.

I like a bunch of his attributes... I don't like that he just gets injured (plenty) or goes MIA during a season.

If he has the internal drive to be the best he can be and gets a clear run with his body I think he could be a player (maybe).

I couldn't guarantee that will happen though... So I'll wait and cross my fingers like all of us will.

As much as I have liked him... I'll still somewhat treat him making it long-term as a bit of a bonus as he is further down the order of other mids/smalls like Holmes, Bruhn, Dempsey, Knevitt, and even Clark.

Willis having a serious breakout season out of nowhere would be a helpful addition to our future.

Time will tell and just not getting hurt is the first step (and it's something he is not accustomed to doing).

Couldn't agree more D BRIDGE - I really like him as well , has AFL attributes and hopefully can stay on the park to deliver on that potential.

Interestingly Wells highlighted the form/emergence of Stengle, SDK and Holmes as a vital part of our 2022 success.
Really hope that some of Willis , Knevitt , Bruhn , Stevens , Dempsey and Conway will be thought of in that vein in 2024:think:

What was most fascinating for me, is looking back at that draft there's only one player (in the open pool), who I would've drafted before him - Zac Taylor. Was the player I wanted most in that draft, and he's had a very slow start filled with injury himself.

Makes sense why Wells went for a bolter at that pick, as there's been barely anyone else of note past Pick 32 anyway. If Willis makes it, will be inspired. This will be his year to show us what he's got.

I don't disagree with your overall point. But I do think Owens and Windhager are getting along more than OK with the Saints at this point. We actually bid on Windhager as well.

In the end, though, unless James can get out there, every player who manages even one AFL game from beyond pick 32 in that draft will end up outperforming him. So I'm wishing him every success in building up his body and then hitting season 2024 extremely hard. Like you, I suspect there's something there if he can only get a decent run at it.

I feel like both Owens & Windhager's stock dropped out of courtesy to an extent.

They appear to be solid young talents, and particularly Owens, who looks like a star in waiting, but they were seen as prospects from 30 onwards in most eyes at draft time.

Clubs are all about keeping good relationships, and they would have seen it as a bit of a dick move to take them inside 40, when they weren't head and shoulders above the over prospective talents.

If they were seen as later first round prospects, I reckon clubs would pull the trigger, but when it's 30-40, a lot of them just let it go through to the keeper to keep things civil.

Similar with FS/Academy players going through the rookie draft.

Agreed about Owens and Windhager being better (hence why I said open pool :p )! Definitely agree with the rest as well :)
