We need to win both games. For one of these we will start as outsiders. So we need one upset.

We ALSO need Richmond to lose a game. They are playing 2nd and 3rd, but are playing them at MCG and are in form. I'd think they go in as favourites.

We also need to maintain our percentage increment against Richmond, which should happen if the above happens.

Therefore we need two upsets to make the top four.

Brisbane don't come into it, as they are two games and percentage above us. We can't pass them (realistically). A bad result would be if they lose both of their last games.

Goey and Moore to miss Crows

by Mitch Cleary (AFL Media), Aug 12, 2019 6:03PM

Collingwood superstar Jordan De Goey is expected to miss at least one more week with a hamstring injury as the Pies sweat on his availability before finals.

The 23-year-old was spotted at scans on Monday afternoon ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Adelaide, however the Pies have allayed fears he had suffered a fresh setback.

Instead, his absence is set to extend to a third week as a result of the original injury and is no certainty to return for the final round against Essendon on August 23.

De Goey is one of several Pies fighting soft-tissue injuries, along with Darcy Moore who is also expected to miss the clash with the Crows.

"Speaking to our medical guys this morning, it would be expected both him (De Goey) and Darcy would come up a bit short," Pies head of football Geoff Walsh told AFL.com.au.

"(De Goey) hasn’t re-injured (his hamstring)."

De Goey had originally told Triple M last Monday that he had been hopeful of returning for last week’s win over Melbourne or the match against the Crows.

Should De Goey and Moore miss the final round against the Bombers, the Pies could have at least three inclusions for the opening week of finals with Jaidyn Stephenson to return from his betting suspension.

Meanwhile, utility Ben Reid completed a one-on-one running session on Monday morning as he keeps the door ajar for an unlikely late season return from his latest hamstring injury sustained last month.

Collingwood’s VFL side has a bye this weekend, with fellow veteran Daniel Wells hoping to put his hand up to play the following week for the first time since his round 10 PCL injury.

Sounds like JDG was worse than they thought and only now are they getting him checked out. Not surprised.

Any other good news stories lol? No word on Sier or Langdon.

Langdon is definitely out for the year. Sier was pictured training last week. Langdon almost totally fell off the radar after his injury.

Jordy surely was always going to miss more than 1 or 2 as this is not his first hamstring.

They are always ultra conservative with Moore.

Can we really be bringing in 4-6 players in the first week of finals which it’s looking like?

Surely the Darcy Moore saga is an elaborate practical joke. This is a repeat of last year's farce. A normal hammy tear is usually four to five weeks tops. We have been assured it was a low grade strain and nothing to be alarmed about. How many weeks have elapsed? It seems very apparent that his next appearance will be our first final which would mean his strain has taken 8 weeks to repair itself. I wish someone would give a very clear explanation as to why he will be missing for so long. He walked off the ground without an apparent limp against the Eagles and sprinted off the ground the year before against the Swans before missing half the season. A bad tear sees players being carried from the ground. I am genuinely bewildered by it. Zorko's hammy was on ice at the end of last weeks game and he was charging around the paddock against the Suns a week later.

The website informs us that Stephenson, DeGoey and Moore might all return for our first final. I find the idea of us playing three blokes who haven't kicked a ball in the heat of a game for months quite a worry. Who knows-Stevo may be rested for the first final just to be sure he's right to go.

The club won’t risk Degoey and Moore in a trip to Adelaide. They have been conservative all year so don’t expect this to change. They have marked Degoey, Moore and Wells to return against essendon with Reid a chance for the first final with Stephenson. The finals game has changed (slightly) with a bye between round 23 and finals. This will mean they back the side to win all games in finals, regardless of top 4. Bulldogs did it and other teams will too, as long as the bye remains between finals and the season curtain closer. It’s always been structure over players so although I’m not convinced of our ability to win without these players, we are much better making sure they are cherry ripe for finals.

Also from what I’ve heard, the club is doing a full review of our medical and fitness departments in the off season, that will rival the club review they did in 2017. Training surfaces, loads, programs including prevention will all get a look at. We’re also looking at poaching a big name from a club who has been keeping their injuries at a minimum over the past several years. This can’t come soon enough!
Is this another joke? If they are being conservative why would you rush back a bloke who has been missing for months and during that period reinjured himself twice? I reckon Dunn would be more likely to get through the game.

If Moore is available... CHB, where he was in the conversation for All Australian honours before the injury. Roughy back to FB, where he has been a rock. Madgen out to a flank. Mayne now not needed as a fill-in at HB. Defence rock solid.
Forward line is adaptable. Add JDG and JS about to be back, Wells a bonus if it happens. Howe a wild card if a situation calls for it.
Core message... no need to utensil up Moore’s equilibrium and the solidity of the backline by playing Moore up forward.
Firstly you can’t leave our forward line with out a talk, secondly you have to take two out of the backline if your putting two players in and thirdly when was Moore in the AA discussion?

I was reading after the Port game that he was a lock. Locking in guys after round 7 is ridiculous though. Think he had a pretty consistent year until the injury. Early on he was dashing and intercepting, then by necessity he was forced to lock down more as he was being dragged deeper. The opposition was consciously trying to stop him reading the ball at CHB.

oh get f’ed, both tipped to miss again according to Walsh, so both suffered low grade hamstring strains, this will be De Goeys 3rd week out and Moores 6th week. Absolute joke.

and I reckon JDG's 3 weeks = Moore's 6 weeks...............only diff is psychology around it. That's the feeling I get anyway.

Who is the ruck relief?

Moore seems fine until he does a hammy and then he seems petrified to get back on the park in case he does it again.
If he can feel it pinging at training it's pointless to test it in the heat of battle
